The Global Food Regulator’s Summit 2024 (GFRS 2024) is organised by India from 20 to 21 September 2024 alongside with World Food India 2024 event. This will be the second edition of the GFRS summit, following its inaugural event in 2023, which was held as a co-branded event of the G20 Summit. This summit provides a unique platform to food regulators of various nations for exchanging information on food product regulatory and safety requirements, with an emphasis on fostering cooperation between nations in the realm of food safety standards.
- The key objectives of GFRS 2024 are to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and information about food product regulatory frameworks and safety requirements across various countries. In addition, the summit aims to promote a common dialogue on critical aspects such as food safety, risk assessment, analytical competence, and capacity-building initiatives.
- It will also engage a diverse range of stakeholders from the food value chain, including food manufacturers, processors, government officials, and non-governmental organizations, in discussions about the global landscape of food safety and regulatory compliance.
- The opening session will be graced by the esteemed presence of Honb’le Union Ministers of Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture & Farmer Welfare, Consumers Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & New & Renewable Energy along with Chairperson and Secretary, Codex Alimentarius Commission (an Intergovermental body of WHO & FAO- UN Organisation).
- In addition Director General of ICAR and Secretaries of various departments of Government of India such as Youth Affairs & Sports, Consumers Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Information & Broadcasting, Science & Technology, Commerce & Industries, etc. will be delivering the keynote address in the technical sessions (EU)
- The valedictory session will be graced by Honb’le Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying,Honb’le Minister of State of Health and Family Welfare along with Secretary, Health & Family Welfare and India’s G20 Sherpa.
- Delegates with more than 50 countries comprising of Food Regulatory Bodies, Risk Assesment Authorities, Research Institutes will be participating in this two day summit. .
- In addition, the event is expected to have physical participation from over 5,000 stakeholders, along with virtual participation from over 1 lakh stakeholders. This includes approximately 40,000 Food Business Operators, 35,000 students and researchers from colleges and research institutes across the country, 6,000 exporters, 5,000 importers, 3,500 Food Safety Officers, officials from Indian embassies across 60 countries, 2,500 food safety trainees, and 10,000 Food Safety Mitras.
